London Stadium 60k?
I keep reading that the capacity is 60k. I was still under the impression the London was only 57k pending approval to move to 60k and eventually 66k.

Someone know the corrrct allocation?

I saw that as part of Birmingham's bid (v Liverpool) for the 2022 Commonwealth Games they are proposing that the stadium they use for the British trials into a 45,000 athletics stadium
Good idea.
I hope they win and we can eventually move all athletics there.

Fully agree with Ludo - it will take years

Re: London Stadium 60k?
Us buying it and redeveloping it will not happen, not in next 15-20 years anyway.

Olympics and recent athletic WC were too successful and ended with all and sundry saying that London had 'saved' athletics and that WC should be brought back to LS asap. According to papers London has applied for 2022 European Championship athletics.

Us being in the stadium allows this to happen as we give it a purpose, as intended by the powers that be.

One day, after G&S have sold up, after the restrictive sale penalty has lapsed and after the star of the LS has faded then it might happen... but that is a long way off.

Re: London Stadium 60k?
Sulli wouldnt. Someone or something else who already owns a lot of the surrounding area might.

Depends on the level of ambition they have for their pockets - imagine the value of the whole Club as an asset if it came with an owned stadium?

I never said Sullivan or mentioned when this was likely to happen

Re: London Stadium 60k?
So we think Sullivan who won't spend £40m on a player will buy and re-develop the stadium?

Re: London Stadium 60k?
of indeed LLDC ...that was another quango !

Re: London Stadium 60k?
So we await LDDC running out of money - and patience - and looking to pay off Athletics ..... and maybe be open to offers on the stadium ?

Gavros 2:42 Thu Sep 7
Re: London Stadium 60k?
Yes, as I said, UKA love being there as they pay fuck all and all the costs are lumped onto the LLDC. Which makes it very much in the LLDC's interests to make UKA a financial offer to sod off.

Cheers Gents... perhaps someone could explain this to Gavvy.... as he's off on one of his willy-nilly campaigns that make no sense...

Northern Sold

Domestically Birmingham makes total sense for UK Athletics to be based there but when it comes to staging International Events then their main selling point is the London Stadium, can you imagine them giving that up even if it is one month a year buts cost them a relative pittance?

Re: London Stadium 60k?
Now I maybe wrong... and happy to be told so... but isn't UK Athletics already at Birmingham?? I'm pretty sure that's where they do all the trials and stuff isn't ??

Re: London Stadium 60k?
Spurs always had the right idea in pulling the place down and redeveloping Crystal Palace for Athletics.

Re: London Stadium 60k?
I can't imagine UK Athletics ever wanting to up sticks and leaving the stadium with the deal they have, no matter how good the facility would be in Birmingham it will never be attractive on the International stage as the London Stadium is, it is a Godsend to UK Athletics and our presence ensures it will continue to be to them.

Sarge : I had enough and have moved lower tier as couldn't manage the stairs anymore!! .... but how many stadiums have so many fans in upper tiers with no catering at all - laughable.

PS. I too am pro Birmingham for Athletics !!!

Gav... I do not know.... I am not chief of UK Athletics.... where as you think you know everything... and 90% of the time... fuck it up...

Re: London Stadium 60k?
you think the government are going to waste money every year when there's a perfectly good athletics stadium sitting idle in Birmingham?

Ed Warner's point was I think an attempt to prevent Birmingham getting the nod, because it would have ensured they'd stay at the OS. I think that far less likely now.
